Our Work
We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all of our partners across Region 6 to strengthen our workforce, systems, and processes. Our team uses a multi-pronged strategy to accomplish this mission.
What We Do
Research
Our Center works to identify and curate high-quality, relevant evidence-based resources for health departments to strengthen their public health emergency systems. Our research team conducts comprehensive analyses to identify what works. Then, we adapt these resources to align with regional realities, ensuring our partners are equipped with the best available strategies to enhance readiness within their jurisdictions.
Training & Resource Development
Our Center understands the need to develop practical, relevant, and scalable educational resources tailored to the needs and diverse contexts of Region 6. To meet these standards, our staff aims to curate guidebooks, toolkits, training programs, and other resources that are grounded in adult learning principles and informed by real-world practice. Whether delivered in-person or asynchronously, our resources are designed for immediate implementation and long-term impact.
Implementation & Evaluation
We work closely with our partners to ensure that the strategies and tools we develop are not only evidence-based, but also evidence-building. Through hands-on collaboration, we pilot test new interventions in real-world settings and evaluate their effectiveness. Our goal is for each product to be refined and approved by dozens of practitioners, subject matter experts, and public health leaders.
Technical Assistance
We understand that many jurisdictions operate with limited capacity—and we’re here to help. Through coordinated efforts, our team works with public health agencies to determine needs and identify ways to assist. Whether through strategic planning, workforce development initiatives, or facilitating exercises or workshops, our goal is to reduce the burden on overstretched health departments while helping adopt strategies that work. Focus Areas
Our activities are based on the most pressing needs identified by Region 6 partners and practitioners. Learn more about these core issue areas and the ways our Center seeks to bridge these gaps.
Workforce Development, Coordination, and Training
Region 6 is heavily impacted by workforce challenges such as staffing shortages, high turnover, and gaps in training resources. We strive to build a stronger, more capable public health emergency preparedness workforce by creating high-quality, practical learning and development resources. From leadership development for emerging professionals to just-in-time training for surge staff, we’re ensuring that every responder has the skills, knowledge, and confidence to act effectively during an emergency.
Multi-Sector Partnership and Coordination
Effective public health emergency response depends on strong partnerships. In Region 6, we’re standardizing information-sharing practices, cross-training sectors, and building strong relationships before a crisis hits. By fostering collaboration between public health and key sectors, we’re breaking down silos and ensuring that communities are ready to respond quickly and effectively to any public health threat.
Data and Information, Governance, Collection and Management
Data is a powerful tool in protecting public health—but only when it’s accurate, secure, and actionable. We’re developing standardized processes for data collection and management, strengthening cybersecurity and governance policies, and training teams on emerging technologies. Our goal is to ensure decision-makers have the right information, at the right time, to guide response efforts and save lives.
